Elmina Castle, Cape Coast, Ghana. This is Elmina Castle where slaves were held in bondage prior to the voyage "The Middle Passage".

This is Elmina Castle one of the many places that slaves were held in bondage prior to being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean on the Treacherous Voyage known as "The Middle Passage". Thousands died along the way and many jumped overboard and tossed the children into the sea rather than face the fear of the unknown.

This is why we must go back....we must never forget!

Female Slave Dungeon

This was the well where they washed the slaves, the Governor would select a woman and then demand that she be washed before she was brought to him .

At any given time a woman could be taken at the pleasure of the Governor to do whatever he wanted with her. This was very difficult to hear and the most emotional part of the tour for me.

Slave Exit to Waiting Boats

The Door of No Return! This was the final place at the castle before the captives were placed on ships on the voyage known as "The Middle Passage".

Another view of the castle

Church at Elmina Castle, Yes they held Church! Pastors were responsible for presiding over marriages, counseling prior to captivity and funerals.

Yes they actually held church services at the slave castle! Pastors were responsible for presiding over marriages, counseling prior to captivity and conducting funeral services.
